Why a collection of writings on Asian film? The answer: Simply put, I love movies. I've loved movies for as long as I've been able to comprehend a flickering image on a screen. I love movies as both art form and entertainment, and I decided at a young age to make movies my profession. But...the last two decades of American filmmaking have left me bored, disappointed and hungry for more. Fortunately, at about the same time that I first began to despair over the state of the Hollywood art, I discovered Asian cinema, and fifteen years later I still think it's the world's freshest, most consistently innovative and most downright entertaining. I've already written one book on the subject, but I just can't seem to stop - and since you're already here, I'm assuming you don't mind too much, either. My real focus in these pages will be on Hong Kong cinema, but from time to time I may also venture into Japanese, Korean, Chinese and even Indian cinema. Doh je!
