Happy 25th birthday, Alien! This was taken on Alien's opening day in 1979, in the forecourt of the old Egyptian Theater in Hollywood, where the original full-size "Space Jockey" prop from the film (sculpted by H. R. Giger) was on display. Unfortunately the entire prop burned to the ground a few days later.I was in New Orleans around Halloween about ten years ago, enjoying a lovely morning in the famed Pat O'Brien's, when I looked over and realized seated next to me was a table of Elvis impersonators. Fortunately I had a cheap throwaway panorama camera with me, and this was the happy result. Happy Halloween from The King and I! Proof that you can't have Halloween all year 'round. Taken with the Sharp digital.

I stumbled across this garden display, and thought it was just the perfect photo to honor the 2004 elections. All that's missing is a funeral wreath. This was my dog from when I was a kid, Trixie Delight. She was half Boston Bull Terrier, half Dachshund, and weird as hell - but in a cute way. I took this with my first SLR, a Canon AT-1. This is a Polaroid taken of me on the set of Life On the Edge - aka Meet the Hollowheads - in my role as the "Edge Slut", which was finally cut from the film. And by the way, that's not a hat - that's actually my hair.
"It never rains in California..." Actually the song should go, "It never DRAINS in California". Taken at 1:30, on February 18, 2005, near the intersection of Vineland and Lankershim in North Hollywood. My secret ghostwriter falls asleep on the job again... Giant cat in settee!! (Actually, it's a regular-sized Torquemada in a tiny settee...).
What the heck is this thing? It's a pirate-monkey-chandelier-uh, thing, spotted hanging somewhere in New Orleans Square at Disneyland. And it kind of creeps me out. This lovely moth appeared on my window one frosty morning The Deadly Mantis made a surprise appearance at my bookstore recently, wedged into the Art section. Seriously, this sucker was the size of my fist - even Zola the One-Eyed Pirate Kitty was afraid of this fellow!
This is Henrietta, the crazy new cat at the Iliad Bookshop. Don't ask me where the rest of her is. This amazing piece of history recently fell out of a book (totally unrelated in terms of subject matter, by the way) at the Iliad Bookshop. It's what was known as a "cabinet card", and probably dates to around Civil War time, with the photographer listed as being in West Virginia...but WTF is going on here? Southern belles defending the homefront from Yankee zombies...or early wild girls on a spree?
