Help Bill Tunilla!

Anyone who's been around the Southern California used book biz for a while knows Bill Tunilla. Bill ran his own store, House of Fiction, in Pasadena for more than twenty years; in 2002, House of Fiction closed and Bill came to work for Iliad Bookshop in North Hollywood. Bill worked part-time at Iliad until June 28, 2008, when he was forced to quit due to ill health.

A few years ago Bill received a diagnosis of cancer. Unfortunately his disease didn't respond to chemotherapy, and Bill is now seriously ill. He's had his lungs drained multiple times over the course of the last year, has received numerous blood transfusions, and at this point the prognosis is not good. The news gets worse, though: BIll has no health insurance, and now has no income as well.

Although Bill has no immediate family, we'd like to think the readers of Southern California will join us as Bill's extended family. If you ever visited House of Fiction, bought a book from Bill or chatted about baseball, literature or film (he worked as a film editor in Britain) with him, you'll know he's amazingly well-read, amiable and very decent.

Hopefully by now you're thinking, So how can I help?

We've done our best to make it easy, and can offer you a number of options:

And if you can't afford a donation right now (hey, we're used booksellers, we understand!) but would still like to send Bill some good wishes, feel free to either use this e-mail link or mail a card to Bill's address below
